Seed saving and ecology

Join us for a look at the importance of seeds and how we can positively impact ecosystems through the practice of seed saving.

Learn everything you need to know about seed saving, from collecting (how/when), to screening and cleaning, to proper storage. Saving seeds promotes self-sufficiency, allows you to select for plants that are healthier and better suited to your environment, and offers a way of sharing plants with your community. And most importantly, saving seeds is a way of deepening your connection to plants and place.

In addition to this introduction course to seed saving we will delve deeper to understanding the function of seeds in ecosystems.

The human story has evolved through interaction with seeds in ecosystems. In the age of the Anthropocene, the question that remains is, how can humans move from a threat to the biosphere, to a keystone species that protects and enhances the ecosystem it is a part of.

Answers to this critical question will be covered by Andrew McMillion, of the Norwegian Seed Savers.

The course will be held in English
